This Institute is well known to the world for its rare manuscripts on Historiography, Orientalogy, Islamic Studies, Sufism, Urdu, Arabic and Persian Literature, Catalogues, Medicines, Auto-biographies, Medieval History, Literature based on Independence, Calligraphy, Philosophy, Calligraphic Art etc...
When Nawwab Muhammad Ali Khan, the third ruler of erstwhile princely State of Tonk was happened to be away to Benaras from Tonk he because of his fondness continued also there to collect invaluable books and manuscripts specially of high standard orientalogy. This educational material was hard to be available and hard to be bought easily by an ordinary person. After his demise the collection was brought to Tonk. This invaluable collection was kept in Saeediya District Library, Tonk, which was as a Branch Office of Rajashtan Oriental Research Institute, Jodhpur and from this office the collection was transferred into a separate and an independent Directorate in 1978 in Tonk Rajasthan.
Realizing the importance of this collection the Government of Rajasthan built a palatial building as an independent Directorate in Tonk with an inaugural function. The function was inaugurated by Hon’ble P. Shiv Shankar - the then Minister for Human Resource Development, Government of India and presided over by Shiv Charan Mathur, the then Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
In the year 1996, the Government of Rajasthan got built a beautiful Scholar’s Guest House also for the lodging facility of the research scholars and savants.
